My Kavanaugh Hangover

By Al Perrotta Published on September 28, 2018

It’s the morning after the Kavanaugh-Ford marathon and I have but one question: Where’s the aspirin?

Actually, I have plenty of questions. But after a night of sleeping and sorting, let’s get to the one thought most bugging me. …

Ford Got Used and Abused … and Not by Kavanaugh

Christine Blasey Ford was used, abused, betrayed. Then tossed under the bus. Who did it? The Democrat Destruction Army. Minority Leader Chuck Schumer promised to try and take Kavanaugh down “by any means necessary.” His former aide admits the plan. It was to destroy Kavanaugh, delay past mid-terms and hope to get enough Senate seats to dictate the shape of the court. Truth? That’s for suckers. If some mild-mannered psych professor has to be sacrificed in the process? So be it. Just another body tossed on the altar for abortion.

Unless Ford is lying, she wanted to remain anonymous. She was perfectly happy to have Judiciary investigators come to her. To do what they needed to do. Then her civic duty would have complete. Oh, the innocence! (Again, giving her the benefit of the doubt.)

Democrats leaked her story and her name. That forced the story to the front pages. Feinstein hooked her up, but not with a non-partisan lawyer out for Ford’s interests. Instead, she got a Soros-funded Democratic activist with one interest only: Exterminate Kavanaugh.

Truth? That’s for suckers. If some mild-mannered psych professor has to be sacrificed in the process? So be it. Just another body tossed on the altar for abortion.

They lied about her fear of flying. And issued absurd demands that cut into Ford’s credibility. They scrubbed her social media and yearbook. (Again diminishing her credibility.) They said her therapy notes validate her claims. Then refused to present them as evidence. (Again to credibility.) Then yesterday, when Ford had served her purpose, Feinstein blamed Ford for leaking her own name. There’s your victim shaming.

Whatever torment Ford has endured these two weeks and whatever hassles she will face going forward? That’s all on the Democrats.

Feinstein’s Malevolence

Also, sticking in my craw? The complete and utter unfairness Dianne Feinstein showed Kavanaugh. The senator I voted for twice in California never, ever would have been so vicious. Former California senator Barbara Boxer, sure. She was a sniveling snake. (Google the name Bruce Herschesohn and the 1992 Senate Race.) But not the old Sen. Feinstein. But this new Feinstein desperate to keep her job?

At the same time she’s setting Ford up with that Soros-funded lawyer hellbent on Kavanaugh’s destruction, she’s got Kavanaugh right there in her office. Yet she does not make a peep about the allegation. She waits and waits … and waits …. Until Kavanaugh seems on the verge of confirmation. Then bam! Ambush. What a complete betrayal of decency. Her decades spent building a reputation for fairness and responsibility? Blown to bits. Duplicity is now her legacy.

I don’t know whether to cry or barf.

The Kid Gloves

I don’t want to say Christine Blasey Ford was treated with kid gloves. She was treated with kid gloves wrapped in bubble-wrap, wrapped in cotton covered in stickers of cute little kittens. We know why. The optics of an alleged victim of sexual assault having her story shredded by a bunch of men. … That would not play well politically. And since it was not a trial — at least in theory — a gentler approach isn’t unreasonable.

The matronly and genial Brenda Mitchell did coax out of Ford some crucial information. Contrary to her lawyer’s assertions that she was terrified of flying, Ford’s been flying here, there and everywhere.

Mitchell also revealed that Ford was not given a forensic interview. That’s the common and rightful practice when an abuse victim comes forward. Instead she was thrown to media sharks and political snakes. (One suspects that if Mitchell did a forensic interview on Ford, we’d know a heckuva lot more about what went on in 1982.)

Just the Facts, Ma’am

Mitchell coaxed out some facts about the incident. It was not really a party, but a small quiet gathering. And yet nobody noticed that half the kids disappeared upstairs, and there was a sudden blasting of loud music. (My question: Did these two totally sloshed guys turn off the music before heading downstairs? Must have, if Ford was able to hear them go down the stairs. Pretty conscientious of them, for drunken would-be rapists.)

Ford also has difficulty remembering simple matters from her very recent past. Did someone record her polygraph? When did it happen? Did she give therapy notes to reporters?

Of course, maybe the top-notch psychologist was just playing coy. If she admitted giving her therapy notes to the Washington Post, but not to Senate investigators she’d have some serious explaining to do. Whether that’s a fair critique or not, I don’t know. But when I saw the Associated Press say Ford had “presented herself as” being helpful and accommodating, I pondered. If anyone would know how to “present themselves” in a strategic manner for a particular effect it’d be … a psychologist.

The Creepy Witch

Or an actress. Speaking of which, is former Charmed star Alyssa Milano a creature of the dark or what? (Writer Thomas Wictor is convinced Milano was part of a potentially violent disruption during the hearing, but was thwarted. His thread is both compelling and haunting.) She was there at the invitation of Sen. Feinstein. Her staff even gave her protest signs.

The only thing missing was a Kavanaugh-shaped black candle.

As for Kavanaugh

I’m stunned by how much snark the Left and media is giving Brett Kavanaugh for being emotional and angry. Would they have been happy had Kavanaugh — unarguably one of the nation’s finest legal minds — had spent his time cooly, calmly dissecting Ford’s story? Or robotically answering questions from senators who have publicly declared him guilty of attempted rape?

Kavanaugh was raw and hurt. Human. And let’s be real: 95% of us in his situation would have told the Senate Democrats to go … do something that’s anatomically impossible. Even Milano teared up when Kavanaugh recounted how his daughter suggested praying for Dr. Ford.

That’s a wise daughter. Kavanaugh will likely be confirmed. The world, we should pray, will move on. But the carnage inflicted on Kavanaugh, Ford, and their families will need healing. The kind of healing that only the Great Physician can heal. So we must be praying for Brett Kavanaugh and Christine Blasey Ford.

Further, the Democrats’ deeds in this confirmation add up to an abomination that will impact the nation for decades. How can we possibly return sanity, let alone civility, to the process without the power of the Holy Spirit? It cannot be done. Our motto is “In God We Trust. ” And at this hour it is to God we must desperately turn.
