This Wednesday, September 27, millions of students are expected to gather at their school’s flagpoles to pray in an annual event called See You at the Pole.

See You at the Pole (SYATP) began in 1990 when a handful of Texas students were burdened to pray for schools. Those students challenged others and now millions of students pray worldwide during SYATP.

Last year about 2 million prayed for their schools, families and communities. This year, 3 million students in 20 countries are expected to participate. The theme, “Fix Our Eyes,” is based on Hebrews 12:2: “Let us fix our eyes on Jesus.”

The Global Week of Student Prayer begins on Sunday, September 24, and ends on September 30. During this week that students are encouraged “to find new and unique ways, places, and times to pray throughout the week,” reported Liberty Counsel.

Prayer at SYATP is guaranteed by our First Amendment. According to Liberty Counsel, students have the right to pray “individually or in groups on school grounds during any non-instructional time.” The federal guidelines on prayer in public schools may be found on their website.
