Meryl Streep took aim at President-Elect Donald Trump Sunday night at the Golden Globes during her lifetime achievement award acceptance speech.

While she didn’t mention him by name, it became quickly became clear whom she had in mind when she described an incident involving “the person asking to sit in the most respected seat in our country,” reported the Associated Press. Streep criticized the president-elect for allegedly mocking a disabled New York Times reporter, something Trump has vehemently denied. Streep added that “when the powerful use their position to bully others, we all lose.”

As Mollie Hemingway of The Federalist pointed out, Trump made the same hand gestures for the reporter, Serge Kovaleski, as he did for a general and even Sen. Ted Cruz. In fact, it wasn’t entirely clear whether Trump even knew Kovaleski had a disability. Trump said that he didn’t know the reporter or what he looked like, only that he “merely mimicked what I thought would be a flustered reporter trying to get out of a statement he made long ago … if Mr. Kovaleski is handicapped, I would not know because I do not know what he looks like. If I did know, I would definitely not say anything about his appearance.”

Meghan McCain, Senator John McCain’s daughter, a FOX News host known for her criticism of Trump, tweeted, “This Meryl Streep speech is why Trump won. And if people in Hollywood don’t start recognizing why and how — you will help him get re-elected.”

In a telephone interview with the New York Times, Trump said he wasn’t surprised that “he had come under attack from ‘liberal movie people,’” and called Streep a “Hillary lover.”

Later Monday morning, Trump tweeted that Streep was “over-rated” and once again denied that he mocked the disabled reporter.

Senior adviser to President-Elect Trump, Kellyanne Conway, responded to Streep’s comments Monday morning on Fox & Friends

I really wish she would have stood up last night and said ‘look, I didn’t like the election results, but he’s our president and we’re going to support him.’ But this is Hollywood … a lot more self-awareness would do them some charm.”

Streep, a well-known liberal in Hollywood, gave a standing ovation for director Roman Polanski, an admitted child-rapist who fled the U.S. to escape punishment, when he won an award at the 2003 Oscars. You may watch the video here:
