We’re sure many people stuck on the Pennsylvania Turnpike have prayed before — but how many of them have Mass, with an altar made of snow?

From Facebook:

Returning from the ‪#‎marchforlife, these students traveling with their priest got stuck on the PA Turnpike since last night. They decided to have Mass outside on an altar made out of snow!!

Priest leading Mass in PA

WBAY, an ABC affiliate in Wisconsin, confirmed a report that the stranded group of about 150 people, mostly students, are from the Catholic Diocese of Green Bay. The group left the Washington area immediately after the March for Life in an effort to make it back, but the East Coast blizzard has stranded them and many others on the turnpike since 10 p.m. last night.

Fortunately, they had several priests with them. And so, while sheltering other stranded people who had run out of gas trying to keep warm, this group celebrated Mass in the snowstorm after making an altar out of snow. Witnesses present are calling the singing of the students on the hillside “beautiful” and “quiet reverence.” We rejoice in their witness and pray for their safety, and the safety of all stranded in this storm.
