Man Who Lost Everything in Harvey Flood Still Thankful: ‘God is Good’

By Nancy Flory Published on August 30, 2017

A man and his son were walking in the rain after their rescue from Harvey’s flood waters when a reporter splashed up beside them. What the reporter found was an inspiration. Even though the man and his son had lost everything, they are still thankful. And the man gave praise to God.

When Jeremiah and his six-year-old son, Jeremiah, Jr., arrived home the day before, it wasn’t raining. Within 45 minutes, Jeremiah said, they were in a flood. The two became stranded on the second floor of an apartment building overnight.

Jeremiah and his son were rescued by crawling out of the second-story window into a helicopter basket. “We thank God, we thank God,” he told the reporter. Jeremiah and his son had backpacks on, the only items they were able to bring. “We lost the car, all the clothes, school clothes, everything’s gone.”

“Where do you go now?” the reporter asked.

“We don’t know. We don’t know.”

“But you’re thankful?” the reporter questioned.

“Yeah, we’re thankful! God’s good. God’s good.”
