Kasich Tops Trump in Ohio, According to New Fox News Poll

With just a few days until the pivotal winner-take-all primary elections in Ohio and Florida, Ohio Governor John Kasich has taken the lead over Donald Trump in Ohio by a 34 to 29 percent margin, according to the latest Fox News poll. Until this poll Trump had been leading Kasich by 3 to 6 points.

In the new poll, Ted Cruz is third with 19 percent and Marco Rubio a distant fourth at 7 percent.

The Fox News Ohio poll marks a substantial shift from earlier polling and so may be an outlier that missing the actual contours of the GOP race in Ohio. However, it is the only poll to date conducted entirely after the most recent GOP debate, which many viewed as damaging to Trump.

Meanwhile, in Florida Rubio appears unable to gain ground in his home state, according to another Fox News poll released the same day. If he loses Florida, and Kasich wins Ohio, Rubio’s supporters — both voters and donors — may quickly melt away.

According to the Ohio poll, Kasich has a sky high 79 percent approval rating among the Ohio party faithful in his job performance as governor.

With the final debate before the Ohio and Florida primaries on Thursday, expect Trump — who still has slight lead over Kasich according to the RealClearPolitics average of polls conducted since March 2 — to focus more of his attention on the governor.
