Joy Break: Justify Wins Triple Crown, Owner Explains His Name is Biblical
When we turn on our television or smart phones we are bombarded with news that brings us down. Where are all the good stories? Those stories are still there. Here’s one that we hope will bless you.
A 3-year-old colt named Justify just won the Triple Crown at Belmont Stakes on Saturday. Justify jumped into the lead within seconds and had a wire-to-wire win, according to ESPN. A wire-to-wire win is a term in competitive sports that refers to a winner maintaining the lead during an entire game or race.
Justify’s Name
President of WinStar Farm, Elliot Walden, explained Justify’s name. “Amy Nave helps me with names,” he said, referring to his office manager and executive assistant. “We have thirty to name each year. … A lot of times we use biblical names. Justify is a term in Romans 9:9-10. It talks about being justified by faith. It was a name that was available and we looked for that as a great opportunity. Blessed that this horse has a great name.”
Justify’s win brought smiles to all of the owner’s faces in a press conference after the event. Teo Ah Khing, Chinese Horse Club founder said, “The Lord opened the doors,” for Justify to win. Bob Baffert, Justify’s trainer and previous Triple Crown winner from his horse American Pharoah, said that through Justify, “The Lord has given me another crack at it.”
Justify is the 13th Triple Crown winner.
