Joy Break: ‘God Made a Way’: Man With Cerebral Palsy Visits the Beach for the First Time

By Nancy Flory Published on July 28, 2018

When we turn on our television or smart phones we are bombarded with news that brings us down. Where are all the good stories? Those stories are still there. Here’s one that we hope will bless you.

An Alabama man born with cerebral palsy visited the beach for the first time, thanks to friends from his church.

David Thomas, 36, always wanted to go but could never see himself experiencing it first-hand. He explained that not many people take time out to help a disabled person.

Without his church family, he might not have made it to the beach.

God Made a Way

“I just feel so good because I haven’t been anywhere since I was 15 years old so I’m having the time of my life right now.”

“It took me years to get here but God made a way for me to get here. I never imagined it looking like this, but it’s beautiful. I love it and don’t want to go home.”

He became emotional as he took it all in. “I never really go anywhere so it’s just like a dream come true. This one moment I’ll never forget. No matter how old I may be, I will never forget this.”

Even if he never experiences it again, he is going to enjoy it, β€œlive in the moment and thank God for what it is.”

He hopes his story inspires others to hold onto their dreams. “I have been in a wheelchair all my life. I pretty much have been [in] Bessemer [Alabama] all my life. I’ve never been able to walk. I’ve always been in a wheelchair and, you know, I just try to make the best of my life, the best of my situation. Thank God for whatever it is because I realize that it could always be worse. If there is anybody in a wheelchair looking at this: never give up on your dreams.”
