Joy Break: Country Singer Blake Shelton Releases Gospel Song

By Nancy Flory Published on October 22, 2019

When we turn on our television or smart phones we are bombarded with news that brings us down. Where are all the good stories? They’re still there. Here’s one that we hope will bless you.

Country singer and The Voice judge Blake Shelton is seeing the light with a new country gospel song called Jesus Got a Tight Grip.  Billboard.com reports Blake released the song last week in conjunction with the announcement he’s extending his “Friends and Heroes Tour.”

It’s an upbeat song of redemption, with Blake admitting he’s been more “cold beer” than “holy water.” But he’s seen the “light, and it ain’t just a neon sign.” Jesus has a “tight grip” on him.

The catchy chorus goes: “Jesus got a tight grip on my soul and He ain’t lettin’ go, He ain’t lettin’ go. The devil reaches out but he can’t grab hold, ’cause Jesus got a tight grip on my soul. He ain’t lettin’ go, He ain’t lettin’ go, might have a little rust on my halo, but when I’m gone I know where I’ll go, ’cause Jesus got a tight grip on my soul.”

Shelton’s Friends and Heroes Tour will begin February 13, 2020. His new album, Fully Loaded: God’s Country, will be out December 13.
