Joy Break: Church Burns Down, but the Cross Remains

By Nancy Flory Published on June 22, 2022

When we turn on our televisions or smart phones we are bombarded with news that brings us down. Where are all the good stories? They’re still there. Here’s one that we hope will bless you.

Balsora Baptist Church in Bridgeport, Texas, burned to the ground last week, but one thing remained standing: a cross.

Wise County Emergency Services District No. 2/Boonsville-Balsora Volunteer Fire Department posted the image on their Facebook page. They wrote, “A devastating loss to our community, but a sight to behold. The fire took the structure, but not the cross. A symbol that the building was just that, a building. The Church is the congregation, and where 2 or more gather, there he shall be also.”
