Joy Break: California Officer Finds, Feeds Chickens in Aftermath of Wildfires

By Nancy Flory Published on November 19, 2018

When we turn on our television or smart phones we are bombarded with news that brings us down. Where are all the good stories? Those stories are still there. Here’s one that we hope will bless you.

A California Highway Patrol officer went out of his way earlier this week to feed some starving chickens left behind during the wildfires. The unnamed officer posted about finding the chickens on CHP-Oroville’s Facebook page.

“While on patrol in the Paradise area looking for looters, I heard the faint sound of a chicken,” he wrote. “After a short hike, I located about a dozen chickens that literally ran to me. I gave them my water, but didn’t have any food, so the search for food began. I was able to locate a big bag of oatmeal and two big bags of “Life” cereal in the nearby garage. These chickens were sooooo happy to be fed and watered. Whoever owns these chickens, I owe you a few bags of cereal, sorry.”

On Tuesday, CHP-Oroville posted an update. “The owners of the chickens recognized their chickens and house and contacted me via Facebook. I met them and they provided me supplies, so I went back to feed and water my new friends and discovered they had left me a few gifts.”

Please continue to pray for those affected by the California wildfires.
