Our television or smart phones bombard us with news that brings us down. Where has all the good news gone? Those stories are still there. Here’s a story that we hope will brighten your day.

Born at just 25 weeks gestation, Brody Unrau from Winkler, Manitoba is a miracle baby. When he was born, doctors told his parents that his condition was “incompatible with life.” Originally a twin, Brody was the only one to survive. 

It was still touch and go for a while. At 1 pound 11 ounces, his lungs weren’t developed, his heart was slowing down because of the strain of supporting a twin and he has short gut syndrome. “He had a lot of health problems right when he was born and continues to have a lot,” said his mom Randi. 

He is still on a breathing machine and just recovered from a serious infection. But he is improving.

The Unraus have relied heavily on their faith, especially during the hard times. “Doctors would come in expecting Brody to pass away during the night, meanwhile we’ve been up with him praying, and a lot of other people had been praying as well,” said Brody’s dad Eric. Hours later, Brody’s amazing improvement would surprise the doctors. “The medical system is amazing and we’ve seen that,” said Randi. “But there are some things they just can’t explain … other than that God is bigger.”

Eric said that people come to see the miracle baby people are talking about. “It’s awesome to watch how God is working through everything.” Randi said that people’s lives are changing because of the power of prayer in Brody’s life. “It’s really cool … we  try to think of that when it’s really, really hard.”

Randi said they know God is in control, even if Brody doesn’t make it.

“I just had to get to that point where I release him … ‘OK, God, he’s your kid if you take him I know he’s safe with You,’ but it sucks.”

“I used to think people with sick kids… God chose them because they were strong,” said Randi. “Now that it’s my kid I know it’s not because I’m strong, God makes you strong through it …”
