Joy Break: 11 Minutes in Heaven

By Nancy Flory Published on October 20, 2021

When we turn on our televisions or smart phones we are bombarded with news that brings us down. Where are all the good stories? They’re still there. Here’s one that we hope will bless you.

Charlotte Holmes was dead for 11 minutes. “When I opened my eyes, I knew where I was,” she told The 700 Club. “I knew I was in Heaven.”

During a visit in 2019 with her cardiologist, her doctor discovered that her blood pressure had spiked to a dangerous level. She was taken to the hospital where they started an IV. Her husband, Danny, was beside her.

Suddenly, a code was called nurses began rushing about, working to save her life. Charlotte’s heart stopped for 11 minutes. She was clinically dead.

“I was above my body,” she explained. “I could see Danny standing in the corner. … I could see them, all the nurses, around. Then I opened my eyes. I looked around at the beauty. I could see the trees, I could see the grass. And everything was swaying with the music, because everything in Heaven worships God.” Charlotte said she could not describe what Heaven looks like because it’s far beyond anything we could imagine here. “There’s no fear. It’s like, pure joy. When the angels [take] over, there’s no fear. When you’re going home, it’s pure joy.”
