Jordanian Muslims Protected Christian Churches on Easter
Following the deadly Palm Sunday attacks on Egyptian Christians, Muslim youth in Jordan took proactive measures to protect their Christian neighbors from similar violence.
Muslim youth stood guard at churches in Jordan Sunday as Christians celebrated Easter, The Jordan Times reported. Over 40 Coptic Christians were killed and more than 100 injured by ISIS attacks in Egypt on Palm Sunday. No Jordanian churches received specific threats before Easter. But ISIS has put many Middle Eastern communities on perpetual guard.
One participant said the act would “give everyone the freedom to practice their religion without restraints or fear.”
Multiple cities around the small Middle Eastern nation participated. Muslim residents joined to βshow the world the harmony and conviviality in Jordan.” Jordanian Christians were able to worship in peace Sunday, the Times reported.
Muslims in Egypt also answered an urgent call for solidarity the week before. Many rushed to donate blood for injured Christians after the Palm Sunday suicide bomb attacks of April 9.
