I Had the Strangest Dream …

By Jennifer Hartline Published on October 30, 2016

Hillary Clinton was running for President. She decided to choose a Catholic running mate, so that she could attract Catholic voters and give her candidacy the illusion Christian-ness. Tim Kaine took the bait, and sold his inheritance for a chance to be the Vice President. Clinton/Kaine went everywhere talking about their faith and their great respect for faith, how their faith has influenced them, and how faith is such an important part of life.

Kaine sat round the table with Mike Pence and repeatedly pledged his trust in women to make the right “choice” for themselves, even though he personally believed in the preciousness of all human life. Far greater was the spiritual conflict for him, as a “devout” Catholic, in seeing the death penalty carried out in Virginia prisons. The death penalty carried out in the abortion clinic is absolutely moral because Kaine “trusts women.”

Kaine smiled from the stage where he was being honored by the “LGBT” lobby and explained how much he loves his Church, even though the Church is wrong to oppose same-sex “marriage,” and shared his revelatory epiphany, in which he came to understand the true meaning of Genesis β€” the true meaning which has managed to evade theologians, saints, Popes and even the Apostles, all this time! β€” and then encouraged everyone to hang in there because one day very soon the light will finally dawn and the Church will see the error of Her ways and chuck those “bigoted” teachings out the stained glass windows and finally, finally, understand human sexuality and marriage the way God has always understood it because it was His idea all along and who is Kaine to challenge God?!

Just think, Catholics! Tim Kaine says he is certain this new day will soon come, and the Church will change, and there will be no more judgment about the worthy love lives of homosexuals because even Pope Francis has said, who are we to judge? The Church will change, and God will rejoice at our progress, even if it took two thousand years to get here. So saith Kaine.

Had I awakened at this point, I would have shuddered at such a nightmare and thanked God it was only a bad dream. But I slumbered on, and my dream took a remarkable turn.

From all four corners of the nation, Catholics began to arise. They heard what Kaine said, considered what it all meant, and knew immediately what they had to do. They did not speak in soft tones and vague words for fear of seeming discourteous or fanatical. They did not make apologies for their “backwards” ways. They did not cherish a blind spot out of fear of being ridiculed or scorned. They were not impressed or intimidated. They knew there was no time to waste petting a heretic.

These folks knew Kaine preached a false gospel and dared to call it Catholic. They would have none of it. They showed Tim Kaine the door and told him plainly that he could not call himself “devout” in one breath and call for the Church to “change” in the next. He could not claim to respect the sanctity of human life and sanction the “choice” to butcher the child in the womb at the same time. He certainly could not cloak the killing of babies in Catholic cloth and go merrily on his way, scattering his Jesuit resume behind him for anyone still unsure.

No, these Catholics were wise enough to see the wolf beneath the wool. They were tired of being used by the politically ambitious who cared nothing for the Truth, but only for the advantage of claiming the faith, like a badge on their chests. The truly faithful were appalled that an arrogant traitor was masquerading as a loyal servant, and they shouted it from the rooftops.

Not only the faithful laity, but the leaders of the Church also spoke boldly and plainly. Kaine’s profession was not of the Catholic faith, period. Catholics cannot dissent from Church teaching on life and marriage and still claim to be devout Catholics, said the bishops in a loud chorus. There is no such thing as a “personal” belief about a matter of moral truth that can translate into a public policy that utterly contradicts said moral truth. Indeed, moral truths are not private matters at all, but must be lived out authentically in public.

Kaine was called publicly to repent and cease in his scandalous behavior. No one attempted to make allowances for his error, or justify his interpretation of things with more heresy. The priests, bishops and all the faithful stood together and trumpeted the Truth.

It was a great dream. It’s reality that is a nightmare. So allow me to suggest a better response to Kaine, to Hillary and her staff. But first, let’s have a show of hands. How many people were genuinely surprised to learn that Clinton and her people have no respect for Catholics, the Catholic Church or the teachings of the Church? If you raised your hand, then you’re a willing fool. The rest of us have known this all along, and the only thing the leaked emails provide are the exact words they used in private as they bandied their smug insults and plotted their devious little revolution.

Why are our Church leaders wasting their breath asking for an apology from Clinton? Why should she “disassociate herself” from these “extraordinarily patronizing and insulting” anti-Catholic remarks? We know the truth of what she thinks and what she wants to see happen to religious freedom in America. Why bother asking her to deny what is true? Where is our courage?!? Where is our zeal for the honor of the Lord?

Our only response should be: “Who has directed the Spirit of the Lord, or as his counselor has instructed him? Whom did he consult for his enlightenment, and who taught him the path of justice, and taught him knowledge, and showed him the way of understanding?” (Isaiah 40:13-14) You, Mr. Kaine? You, Mrs. Clinton?

Did you measure the waters in the hollow of your hand, and mark off the heavens with a span? Did you enclose the dust of the earth in a measure and weigh the mountains in scales and the hills in a balance?

Did you put air in your own lungs today? Did you call the sun out from its tent at dawn? Did you form man from the dust of the ground and bring him to life? No?

You are dust. It is the Lord “who sits above the circle of the earth … who stretches out the heavens like a curtain … who brings princes to nought and makes the rulers of the earth as nothing” (Isaiah 40:22-23).

“And if you be unwilling to serve the Lord, choose this day whom you will serve… but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord” (Joshua 24:15).
