Does Hillary Aide Huma Abedin Have Something to Hide?

By John Zmirak Published on January 19, 2016

All sorts of strange adjectives pop up when media talk about Hillary Clinton’s closest aide, Huma Abedin, a photogenic daughter of Muslim immigrants. The New York Times called her Hillary’s “surrogate daughter.” Vanity Fair describes her, enigmatically, as Clinton’s “body woman.” By all accounts their relationship is close and long-lasting: Abedin has worked for Hillary since she was 19 years old, and is high in her political counsels. Vanity Fair reports:

She has been Hillary’s traveling chief of staff, a senior adviser, and a deputy chief of staff when Hillary was secretary of state. Now, based in Brooklyn, she is the vice-chair of Hillary’s 2016 presidential campaign. But whatever the title, the job she performs for Hillary has always been essentially the same: confessor, confidante, and constant companion. It’s safe to say that over the years Abedin and Hillary have spent more time together than either has with her husband.

As The Daily Caller has just reported, it was Abedin who rejected appeals by the State Department for Hillary to use a government email server, instead of her illegal private server, for thousands of confidential and classified messages. So if criminal investigations are ever launched into the email scandal, Abedin will be joining Clinton on the witness stand.

Wayward Husbands

A more personal bond the two women share is that each is a publicly loyal, supportive wife to a reckless serial adulterer, and arguably each woman has enabled, or at least excused, the affairs in return for access to power.

Huma Abedin’s husband is former New York Congressman Anthony Weiner, a one-time candidate for NYC mayor who became infamous for sharing obscene photographs of himself with women over the Internet under the nom d’amour “Carlos Danger.” America had its chuckles over that, the New York Post went to town with outrageous punning headlines, and then the story faded from the media. But now a new film threatens to make that whole sordid tale politically relevant again. As The New York Times reports, a documentary on the Anthony Wiener scandal is appearing at a time most inconvenient for Clinton:

In May 2013, Huma Abedin and Anthony D. Weiner allowed filmmakers full access to his mayoral campaign with the hopes that the end result would document a spectacular political comeback, with Mr. Weiner being sworn in as mayor of New York having emerged from a scandal centered on explicit texting that forced him to resign from Congress. …

The film overflows with juicy moments about Mr. Weiner. As the second scandal unfolds in July 2013, Mr. Weiner is shown panicking; misleading the news media; and, at one point, racing through the back halls of a McDonald’s to avoid a woman with whom he traded inappropriate texts, whom his campaign code-named “Pineapple.”

But the footage also centers on Ms. Abedin, who is best known as the closest aide to Hillary Clinton, another woman who has endured public humiliation and political scandal.

To Mecca with Love

More troubling for many than the willingness she shares with her patron Hillary to wink at a husband’s squalid behavior is Abedin’s entanglement with radical Islamic charities, which are funded by a Saudi government that is deeply misogynistic, imposing on its female citizens the second-class status decreed by sharia. Vanity Fair reporter William Cohan, and following him, Lee Stranahan of Breitbart, doggedly chased down the links between Abedin, her family and Muslim charities funneling money to radical Islamists.

There’s a tangled web of connections, but it boils down to this: Abedin’s parents have been backed throughout their careers by a prominent Islamist, Abdullah Omar Nasseef, who set them up in business with a think tank and a journal, where Huma worked as assistant editor for 12 years, from 1996 to 2008. Naseef, who served as her family’s patron and arranged to pay Huma’s salary, has deep connections to Muslim radicals, including sponsors of terrorism.

As Cohan reports:

In his early years as the patron of the Abedins’ journal, Nasseef was the secretary-general of the Muslim World League, which Andrew McCarthy, the former assistant U.S. attorney who prosecuted the “Blind Sheik,” Omar Abdel Rahman, in the wake of the 1993 World Trade Center bombing, claims “has long been the Muslim Brotherhood’s principal vehicle for the international propagation of Islamic supremacist ideology.”

Abedin’s father led the Institute, while her mother was “active in the International Islamic Council for Da’wa and Relief, which is now headed by Nasseef and was banned in Israel on account of its ties to the Union of Good, a pro-Hamas fund-raising network, run by Yusuf al-Qaradawi,” Cohan said. [emphasis added]

McCarthy went on to tell Cohan, “The Union of Good is a designated terrorist organization and Qaradawi is the leading global jurisprudent … of the Muslim Brotherhood, who has issued fatwas calling for suicide bombings in the Palestinian territories and in Israel and has called for the killings of American soldiers in Iraq.”

So, Huma Abedin, Hillary Clinton’s closest aide and friend, worked for a journal connected with all these radical Islamist organizations right up through the year that Barack Obama was elected. Now she is poised to become the most powerful aide to a President Hillary Clinton. And the one decision we know that she made appears to have endangered our intelligence services and perhaps their personnel. Perhaps Mr. Wiener’s photos are the least that she has to hide.
