Hillary Clinton Coughing Attack Mars Labor Day Campaign Kick-Off
Democratic candidate blames Donald Trump for her "allergic reaction."
Hillary Clinton’s Labor Day kick-off to the fall campaign was marred Monday by a minutes-long coughing fit that quickly reignited allegations the Democratic nominee is suffering from health issues.
Clinton began addressing a rally in Cleveland when her speech gave way to the coughing. Doggedly, but clearly uncomfortable, Clinton tried laughing off the attack, joking “every time I think of Trump I get allergic.”
However, the fit continued, with Clinton repeatedly starting and stopping, water and lozenges proving no relief. At one point, V.P. nominee Tim Kaine stood up, apparently in an effort to help, but awkwardly returned to his seat.
MSNBC cut away from the event, with anchor Ari Melber remarking this was “one of the worst coughing fits I’ve seen from her.” Eventually, after about two minutes, the coughing ended, but the Daily Mail reports Clinton’s voice remained “raw and strained” for the rest of her speech.
Clinton had been off the campaign trail for several days, Breitbart reported, in order to rest.
Said the Democratic candidate during her coughing episode, “Boy, we have 63 days to go.”
