Higher Education Takes Another Turn Towards the Ridiculous

By Amelia Hamilton Published on September 14, 2015

A new school year has begun, and colleges, especially the most elite, are continuing their descent into a level of ridiculousness rarely seen outside of satire.

At Columbia University, alma mater of “Mattress Girl” is now requiring students to take part in a “Sexual Respect and Community Citizenship Initiative.” This is another way that colleges are making the path to adulthood that much harder for students. Rather than preparing students for a life outside of college, they are forcing students to take part in activities that cater to a “sex positive” mindview that, paradoxically, paints sex as something negative and victimizing.

If you have been a victim of sexual assault, or if you are a member of the LGBTQ community, there is special programming for you. If premarital sex is against your religious or moral beliefs, however, you’re out of luck.

Among these hallowed halls of higher education, academics are secondary to feelings, but only if your feelings are of the accepted sort.

Commentary Magazine has more on this initiative.
