Hazmat Incident at Ft. Myer: 11 Sickened After Envelope Opened
11 Marines fell ill after a suspicious letter was opened at Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall in Arlington, Virginia Tuesday. Three people were hospitalized with non-life threatening conditions. They were released early Wednesday.
Hazmat teams rushed to the scene Tuesday. The FBI and NCIS are currently investigating.

The victims fell ill after opening the envelope at the Consolidated Administration building on the base. Commonly known as Ft. Myer, the base is located right next to Arlington National Cemetery.
The U.S. Marines tweeted that personnel took “preventive measures” and evacuated people from the building. “Several Marines are receiving medical care as a result of this incident.” The Marines also tweeted that “base officials are coordinating with local HAZMAT teams and @FBI.”
CNN reported a corporal, gunnery sergeant and a colonel “exhibited symptoms of burning hands and face and one person had a nosebleed” when the letter was opened.
Fox News reported the suspicious substance was bagged by authorities.
