God’s Sexual Ethic Is Good For the World
Biblical sexual ethics have a poor reputation these days. The Bible is “prudish” and “repressive.” One author says using the Bible “against” LGBT people is “irresponsible,” because “such complex ideas were beyond the grasp of the writers, just as the shape of the planet or the inner workings of the human body or the nature of gravity were.” It’s almost as if he thinks humanity has advanced in its knowledge of relationships and sexuality just as we’ve advanced in our understanding of science.
That’s a common enough misconception, and it might be believable if today’s authors, poets and playwrights were wise beyond Sophocles and Shakespeare as today’s physicists are knowledgeable beyond Archimedes and Newton. Obviously they don’t. “More modern” does not mean “better” in all fields of human knowledge.
Still the question arises whether the Bible’s sexual ethic is good for the world. In this 7-minute video we hear wise answers offered by hip-hop artist Jackie Hill, author (Is God Anti-Gay?) Sam Allberry and the “unlikely convert,” Rosaria Butterfield.
