What happens when God friends an atheist on Facebook? That’s what God Friended Me, a pilot set to air on CBS, will explore.

According to Variety last month, the divine friend request turns the life of the “outspoken” atheist “upside down.”

“The proximity to the Holy Spirit makes him an agent of change in the lives of those around him,” Variety reports.

Greg Berlanti is responsible for the pilot. He was also behind Dawson’s Creek, Supergirl and Riverdale, and many other shows.

If the God Friended Me pilot is popular, it could turn into a full-fledged drama-comedy series, with weekly hour-long episodes. The show could be hard to pull off, however, Religion News Service noted.

“It’s hard to make God ‘funny’ without offending someone,” RNS reporter Kimerly Winston writes. She adds that CBS has hosted successful religion-based dramas in the past, including Joan of Arcadia and Touched by an Angel.
