God ‘Deserves the Honor and the Glory’: Off-Duty Cop Saves the Life of a 3-Month-Old Who Wasn’t Breathing

“I rolled down my window and that’s when I heard her yelling, ‘My baby’s not breathing!’” K-9 officer Jeremie Nix was on his way home from work when he heard a car honking and noticed the women inside trying to get his attention.

Nechole Crowell was driving through Ocala, Florida, last week when she realized that her infant son, Kingston, had stopped breathing. The Marion County, Florida, deputy pulled over behind her car and jumped out to help.

The dash cam video shows that he took the baby from Crowell and dropped to the ground to begin CPR. “I couldn’t find a heartbeat, I couldn’t tell that he was breathing at all. I gave him a couple of quick chest compressions, which in turn got him to just gasp one time for air,” he told Inside Edition.

No Time to Wait

Nix realized that the baby was in serious trouble and decided not to wait for paramedics. “I realized that he didn’t have any time left. We didn’t have time to wait on the ambulance.” He took the baby to his car and raced to the hospital a half-mile away.

“I remember saying ‘please don’t let my baby die,’” Crowell told WCJB. “I didn’t want to have to deal with losing my dad and losing my son. I was just praying really hard to have my baby here with me.”

Crowell broke down in the ER. Nix told her “I’m gonna make sure they save your baby,” and went to see the child. “A few minutes later he came back to tell me he was breathing and he was crying,” said Crowell. “It was God and Deputy Nix who saved his life.”

Doctors said that Nix’s actions most likely saved the baby’s life. Kingston has since made a full recovery.

A Guardian Angel

Crowell says that Nix was her son’s guardian angel. “I am forever grateful,” Crowell said. “He was my baby’s guardian angel on earth.”

“There’s no question in my mind that God put me right where He needed me to be at the right time to help Kingston and Nechole,” said Nix. “And He deserves the honor and the glory for it. And this guy, he’s our testimony right here and he will be for a long time to come.”
