‘God and Angels Helped’ Them: Good Samaritans Lift Car Off of 6-Year-Old Boy

“It’s something you tell your kids a thousand times don’t run out by cars, don’t run out in a parking lot,” Sarah Everett told KARK. Everett’s six-year-old son was hit by a car last week. And yet, Everett, a mom to seven boys, says that she saw the hand of God in all of it — from the clothes he was wearing to where he was hit to the Good Samaritans who helped that day. “I do know that God’s in control.”

It was a beautiful Sunday in Conway, Arkansas. After church, the Everett family decided to go to Logan’s Restaurant for lunch. Five of the boys were with their father walking toward the restaurant, but Everett and her son Titus stayed behind to unbuckle his little brother from his car seat. When Titus finished, he grabbed his baseball hat and took off running toward his brothers and father.

“I saw him run straight in front of a vehicle,” Everett told The Stream. “I screamed and he went under [the vehicle].” His back against the undercarriage of the mid-size SUV, Titus couldn’t move. Everett screamed for help. Her husband tried to find a jack to lift the car. “Titus was conscious and so I just said, ‘God is with you,’ and we sang When I’m Afraid I will Trust in You, and I just held his hand.”

Everett stayed calm. “I knew God was with him, you know? And God is faithful. My whole life I know that and so to see it in action to know that everything happens for a reason and that God was there.”

All of the Details

Everett explained that even though it was a traumatic event, she sees how “the Lord orchestrated” all of the details.

Like the long-sleeved shirt and baseball cap he was wearing. “Most of our other boys … all put on short-sleeved shirts because it was a beautiful day here in Arkansas. We had just got back from our Christmas vacation Saturday night. And so, I was in the laundry room and I grabbed Titus’ nice shirt. I threw it at him and said put that on. And it was long-sleeved, and so how the Lord just orchestrated that so that his arms wouldn’t be [burned].” His baseball cap also protected Titus from the burning heat underneath the car.

Everett’s 8-year-old son, Hudson, tried to help lift the car off of his brother. “He could feel the vehicle vibrating and so he ran, got in the vehicle and turned it off. Eight years old and that he knew to do that is of the Lord.” Although Titus did get burns on his back, it could have been much worse. The shirt and the baseball cap helped to protect him. As did his brother’s presence of mind to shut off the engine.

How the Driver Hit Him

Everett says that God protected Titus in the way that the driver hit him. She didn’t hit him with the tires. “She hit him in the middle. Praise the Lord she stopped at just the perfect moment.” She added that if the woman had driven even an inch further, Titus could have been killed.

All the Right People

She credits God for having “all the right people” there at the time to help get her little boy out. A waitress and the manager of the restaurant dropped what was in their hands and rushed out to help. Bystanders gathered to lift the SUV off of Titus. “There [were] all these people, workers in the restaurant and customers just ran out to help a boy they didn’t even know.”

The waitress and another girl pulled Titus out. “It was really God and the angels that helped them with that vehicle because how they were able to was amazing.”

The Perfect Dose

The fire department and paramedics arrived right after the women pulled Titus out. One paramedic asked Everett how much Titus weighed. “I couldn’t even think straight. He said, ‘Well, my daughter’s the same age and she looks the same size,'” so he guessed 60 pounds. He had to give Titus medication. “And lo and behold, we took him to the doctor on Tuesday and he was within a pound of that. “The Lord orchestrated all of that.”

God Totally Protected Him

The ambulance took Titus to Children’s Hospital. “They were all waiting. I mean, trauma surgeons, everyone was waiting for what they thought was a horrible [accident].” Although he has burns, scrapes and bruises, Titus was released after about 12 hours. “God totally protected him [from] what could be so much worse.”

God’s Sovereign Plan

Titus can’t walk or stand on his own yet. He does have big burns. But regardless, Everett says that God will use this situation. “Really, the Lord’s going to use this. God does have a special plan for his life.”

“I do know that God’s in control,” she added. “He works all things together for good. And no matter what did happen, it’s all part of His sovereign plan. And so, I just trust Him, I know that He’s faithful, He has been my entire life and He’ll continue to be. Even if Titus had died, I still know that His hand is in it and it’s for our good and His glory.”

God is Good

Everett wants people to know that God is faithful no matter what situation comes. “I mean, God is good, and really I still believe that and I just see how He has worked every detail out and that this is part of His plan and so we just want Him — God — to be glorified, that’s really what we want — people to know Him.”
