Fox News Calls New Hampshire Hours Early, But Not Because They Actually Knew Something

By Al Perrotta Published on February 9, 2016

Fox News declared Donald Trump the winner of the New Hampshire primary with 28% of the vote. But they didn’t mean it.

According to the Fox News website, Marco Rubio came in second with 15%, just ahead of Sen. Ted Cruz at 12% and Gov. John Kasich at 11%. There’s only one problem with the results: They’re bogus. Phony. Wrong. In one of the most embarrassing media “malfunctions” since Janet Jackson’s infamous Super Bowl “wardrobe malfunction,” Fox News accidentally posted sample results while testing their system in advance of tonight’s actual returns. Here’s the Fox News mea culpa:

“During routine testing for the New Hampshire primary a malfunction occurred which briefly showed errant data on our website,” said Fox News Chief Digital Strategist Jeff Misenti. “This error has been rectified. We apologize for any confusion this may have caused.” And, he may have added, Ben Carson is NOT quitting the race.

As Politico reports, the error was first flagged by conservative pundit Charles C. W. Cooke:

Polls do predict Trump will prevail by a double-digit margin. However, second place is looking to be a dog fight with John Kasich, Marco Rubio, Jeb Bush, Ted Cruz and maybe Chris Christie in the mix.

Real results will begin trickling in as polls start closing at 7 p.m. eastern time.
