Four Things I’m Praying Donald Trump Will Do for America

By Jennifer Roback Morse Published on November 26, 2024

I am deeply relieved that former President Donald Trump is now President-Elect Donald Trump. Right now I’m storming Heaven (and hope you will join me) in asking God to move the president on four crucial corrections. Let’s pray that he really does each of the following, fulfilling his campaign promises:

Release and Pardon Political Prisoners

First, I pray that the new president pardons the pro-life protestors who have been sentenced to prison. Among them are Paulette Harlow, aged 75, and her sister Jean Marshall, aged 74. The Biden administration’s Department of Justice decided that these two elderly and infirm women are violent criminals who deserve to be locked up in federal prison. Happily, Trump has already signaled that he will “rapidly review the cases of every political prisoner who’s unjustly victimized by the Biden regime, including Paulette, so we get them out of the gulags and back to their families where they belong.”

Along with the pro-life protesters, I wish the new president would pardon those charged and imprisoned for their activities on January 6, 2021. I have no doubt that he empathizes with them. Their sufferings have been all out of proportion to any harm they have done. Julie Kelly has done careful work detailing the problems with the  Department of Justice’s conduct.

Like the peaceful pro-life protesters, the January 6 protesters were exercising their cherished rights as American citizens to express their point of view — even an unpopular point of view that challenges the powerful. It is no exaggeration to refer to these people as political prisoners.

Pardon them, sir. All of them.

Unwind the Biden Administration’s Gender Insanity

This is a big ask, but not because it is unreasonable. The Biden administration has embedded its gender ideology into so many nooks and crannies of our legal system that it will take a long time and a concerted effort to root it all out. The Biden administration even bragged about expansive plans to reshape the entire country to “advance equality and visibility” for “transgender Americans.” (On Easter Sunday, no less, which Biden rechristened “Transgender Visibility Day.”)

The Trump Transition Team should make a list of all the executive orders the previous administration used to further gender ideology — then rescind them all. They were made with the stroke of a pen; they can be unmade with a fresh pen.

Then let’s have an honest to goodness conversation about what constitutes good public policy in this area. You know — an actual debate based on reason and evidence.

Launch a Blue-Ribbon Commission to Investigate the Biden Dementia Cover-Up

The current president of the United States, Joe Biden, is not well. His mental decline has been obvious to the ordinary people of this country for a long time. His own party declared him unfit to run for reelection. But somehow, these same people considered him well enough to continue to occupy the office of president at a time of escalating tensions with nuclear powerhouse Russia.

We’re supposed to believe that Joe Biden still controls the nuclear football. But if he changed his will or entered into a contract right now, no court of law would honor those documents. Any sane court would find him incapable of making a binding contract and would throw such a will or contract out in a New York minute. But his finger is allegedly still on “the button.”

The incoming president owes it to Americans to open an investigation into who has been running our country for the past four years. Obviously, it wasn’t Joe Biden. So who was it? We need the names.

Who has been the real power behind the throne? Who is making decisions? What ideological gains have they made, and for what particular political tribe? What personal benefits have they acquired for themselves?

We need to find those people and bring them to justice. At the very least, they are guilty of elder abuse. At the very worst, they are guilty of treason. And maybe a whole lot of things in between: voter fraud, larceny, perjury, and maybe much darker deeds. (Do you really believe mere incompetence explains the two near-misses on Donald Trump’s life?)

We need a thorough and credible investigation. Otherwise, many Americans are going to draw their own conclusions. (News flash: some of us already are.) Some of those conclusions will be reasonable. Some will be over-the-top crazy.

The choice of personnel is crucial for the success of an investigation like this one. The members of the commission would have to be above the partisan fray: mature men and women of sound judgment. Finding people who are universally trusted and respected will not be easy.

Nonetheless, this task must be undertaken. Too many people are suspicious about too many things. Sunlight is disinfectant. Fungus grows in the dark. Secrecy brews suspicion into poison.

Please, Mr. President. Start an investigation. Let’s get to the bottom of this, sooner rather than later.

Secure Our Elections via Voter ID

The Republican-controlled Congress — where multiple seats are still in doubt due to last-minute Democrat vote drops — must pass a national photo identification requirement for all federal elections. As of now, 14 states and the District of Columbia have no photo-ID requirement, including contested states like Nevada and Pennsylvania.

Please, Mr. Trump and the Republican Party, let’s get this done! This is what we hired you all to do.
