FEMA Denied Hurricane Relief in Florida to Homes with Trump Signs. Is Anybody Surprised?

By Al Perrotta Published on November 9, 2024

UPDATE: FEMA supervisor Marn’i Washington has been fired, Administrator Deanne Criswell said Saturday. “This is a clear violation of FEMA’s core values and principles to help people regardless of their political affiliation,” she said, adding, “This employee has been terminated and we have referred the matter to the Office of Special Counsel.

Another conspiracy theory has turned out to be hard, cold fact: It turns out FEMA was, indeed, denying life-saving assistance to Trump supporters in hurricane-hit areas. And the Daily Wire has the proof.

According to leaked emails, in the wake of Hurricane Milton, a FEMA supervisor ordered relief workers in Florida to pass by any houses that had Trump signs out in front. A list of “best practices” included “avoid homes advertising Trump.”

The supervisor, Marn’i Washington, gave the order both in writing and verbally, according to whistleblowers.

As a result, at least 20 homes in the Lake Placid area were passed over. This meant the residents were not given the opportunity to qualify for FEMA assistance. Screen grabs from whistleblowers show workers logged the misses in FEMA computers with messages such as “Trump sign. No entry per leadership.” (They were wisely covering their own hides and keeping a record of the egregious order.)

One worker told the Daily Wire, “I thought we could go help and make a difference. When we got there, we were told to discriminate against people. It’s almost unbelievable to think that somebody in the federal government would think that’s okay.”

FEMA Reacts

FEMA is “deeply disturbed” and “horrified” by the revelation and “has taken extreme actions to correct this situation.” In a statement to Daily Wire, the agency said:

While we believe this is an isolated incident, we have taken measures to remove the employee from their role and are investigating the matter to prevent this from happening ever again. The employee who issued this guidance had no authority and was given no direction to tell teams to avoid these homes and we are reaching out to the people who may have not been reached as a result of this incident.

This is a matter that we take extremely seriously and we are doing everything we can to make sure all survivors receive support from FEMA.

We are horrified that this took place and therefore have taken extreme actions to correct this situation and have ensured that the matter was addressed at all levels. Helping people is what we do best and our workforce across the agency will continue to serve survivors for as long as it takes.

DeSantis Orders an Investigation

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis announced he’s ordered the Department of Emergency Management to investigate  “the federal government’s targeted discrimination of Floridians who support Donald Trump.”

“The blatant weaponization of government by partisan activists in the federal bureaucracy is yet another reason why the Biden-Harris administration is in its final days,” DeSantis posted on X. “New leadership is on the way in DC, and I’m optimistic that these partisan bureaucrats will be fired.”

Given Harris’s Own Words About Relief Equity, No One Should Be Surprised

Is anyone really surprised that this happened? Does anyone really believe this was an isolated incident, the actions of one lone supervisor making such a decision out of her own bitter partisan head?

Hurricane relief efforts are still underway in western North Carolina. As of this moment, FEMA leadership and the governor must canvas all FEMA and DHS workers assigned there to see if they were given similar directives, either in writing or verbally. Americans should not have to wait until after January 20 to get the full truth. in this matter.

Marn’i Washington may well be a rogue agent. However, her action to direct resources away from Trump supporters is a logical extension of the Biden-Harris administration’s decision to use DEI initiatives to set create a hierarchy when delivering aid.

Harris was very clear that “equity” was paramount when handing out resources after disasters — specifically distinguishing it from equality, which it inherently is. During a “fireside chat” with Priyanka Chopra Jones in September 2022, Harris discussed disaster relief; according to the White House transcript, she said:

We have to address this in a way that is about giving resources based on equity, understanding that we fight for equality, but we also need to fight for equity; understanding that not everyone starts out at the same place.  And if we want people to be in an equal place, sometimes we have to take into account those disparities and do that work.

There is a direct line from Harris’s position to deliberately denying aid to people who support the “racist” Trump on the assumption they are not disadvantaged by the same hurricane.

We have said previously that Harris has a long history of rewarding her friends and punishing enemies. There is absolutely no question that what FEMA did in this instance was a foreshadowing of what would have happened throughout the federal government had she been elected on Tuesday.

How grateful this nation has to be for the mercy of God and the wisdom of the American people.
