FBI Officially Confirms Its Investigation into Hillary Clinton’s Private Server

The FBI has formally notified the State Department that it is investigating Hillary Clinton’s use of a primary email server while Secretary of State.

The confirmation of what MSNBC calls “one of the world’s worst-kept secrets” comes just one day before the New Hampshire primary. The letter from FBI general counsel James Baker, dated February 2, was released Monday as part of a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit filed by Judicial Watch. Baker is updating a response he gave the State Department in September:

At that time, I informed you that the FBI could neither confirm nor deny the existence of any on-going investigation. Since that time, in public statements and testimony, the Bureau has acknowledged generally that it is working on matters relating to former Secretary Clinton’s use of a private e-mail server. The FBI has not, however, publicly acknowledged the specific focus, scope or potential targets of any such proceedings.

Baker goes on to say the FBI is unable to provide State the information it’s requested “without adversely affecting on-going law enforcement efforts.”

Hillary Clinton continues to maintain she’s done nothing wrong. In last week’s Democratic debate, she declared, “I am 100 percent confident [that the probe will not become criminal]. This is a security review requested and carried out that will be resolved.”

Nonsense, former FBI agents say. “They (the FBI) do not do security reviews,” former assistant director Steve Pomerantz told Fox News. “What they primarily do and what they are clearly doing in this instance is a criminal investigation.” According to Fox News, an intelligence source familiar with the FBI probe “stressed to Fox that the criminal and national security elements remain ‘inseparable.'”

Meanwhile, amid calls she step aside in the case, Attorney General Loretta Lynch insisted Monday that the FBI probe is free of outside political influence. Lynch told The Associated Press the FBI investigation is independent and is being conducted by career lawyers looking at the facts and evidence. Fox News has reported that Clinton’s case is being handled by Charles H. Kable IV, which their intelligence source told them indicates the FBI probe is “extremely serious, and the A-team is handling.”
