Deputies Told Not to Enter School During Massacre, Fox News Reports

By Nancy Flory Published on February 27, 2018

Cowardice or a command decision? The question of why Broward County sheriff’s deputies did not enter Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School grows even murkier.

According to Fox News host Laura Ingraham, deputies were ordered not to enter the school to confront the gunman unless their body cameras were turned on. The deputies did not have body cameras. So they didn’t enter the building or engage the shooter.

Also, The Daily Wire reports deputies blocked medical personnel from entering the school until it was cleared, frustrating many EMTs. A “seasoned first responder” told Fox News they would have risked their life to help the wounded in those critical moments. The local fire chief claimed waiting until the building is clear is usual procedure, however.

Adding to complete breakdown by the Broward County Sheriff’s Department, police also “lost radio communications” during the shooting. According to Ingraham’s source, this wasn’t the first time police have lost radio communication during a crisis. Radio communication “went dead” during the Fort Lauderdale Airport shooting in 2017.

More Evidence Against Sheriff Israel, More Pressure to Resign

Many are calling for the resignation of Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel. “The more we learn about the situation, the more obvious it is that Sheriff Israel needs to resign or be removed immediately,” said Rep. Randy Fine, R-FL. He added that the Florida House is moving this week to subpoena all records of Sheriff Israel. “What happened is a disgrace.”

It appears Israel himself cares more about protecting his own bottom than get to the bottom of what happened. Ingraham released an internal email from the Sheriff’s department directing deputies to defend Israel. The email complains about the “flurry of media allegations” against the sheriff. “He stood with us, and now we must stand with him.”

Yet, even as the email circulated, evidence emerged that Israel lied about the number of times his officers were called to shooter Nikolas Cruz’s home prior to the Valentine’s Day shooting that left 17 dead. According to CNN, cops were there twice as often as he says. Israel puts the number at 23, but records show there were at least 45 calls relating to Cruz or his brother between 2008 and 2017.

On Sunday, Israel boasted about his “amazing leadership.”
