Cruz Gets Behind Trump, Gary Johnson Just Gets Weird

While Ted Cruz's endorsement of Trump dominated media attention Friday afternoon, Libertarian Gary Johnson's odd interview with MSNBC is a must-see.

Ted Cruz’s lengthy Facebook post announcing his endorsement of Republican nominee Donald Trump sparked a Friday afternoon firestorm, with Trump supporters celebrating, #NeverTrumpers reeling, and analyses of the somewhat unexpected about-face flooding the media.

But while Cruz’s endorsement dominated the spotlight, Gary Johnson, the Libertarian candidate vying for the White House, went viral when he oddly and inexplicably stuck his tongue out during an interview.

In the video below, MSNBC’s Kasie Hunts asks Johnson if he thinks he could pull even with Trump and Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton if given the chance to participate in the first presidential debate, slated for Monday.

“I do,” Johnson begins. “And it wouldn’t have anything to do with my debate performance, either. It would just be that people would recognize that there’s another choice, and that there would be an examination of me and Bill Weld as who we are and what we’ve done.”

Then, the interview takes an unexpected turn. Watch below:

Suddenly sticking his tongue out toward Hunts, Johnson continues with his answer.

“I think I could stand up there for the whole debate and not say anything,” he seems to say with his tongue lodged between his teeth, “and emerge as the leader.”

America won’t get the chance to determine that, however, as Johnson did not qualify to participate in next week’s debate. Had he qualified, perhaps viewers would be looking forward to even more entertaining antics from the former New Mexico governor come Monday.

Then again, others would argue that the first presidential showdown between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton will be plenty entertaining enough.
