CNN’s Don Lemon Shares How Bishop T.D. Jakes ‘Changed My Life’

It’s not common to see Christian leaders honored in the secular media. But in a recent series by CNN personalities called “The Person Who Changed My Life”, news anchor Don Lemon chose to thank and honor Bishop T.D. Jakes — a person he’d never met.

Lemon recalls a time when his career seemed to stall. Having always wanted to be a journalist, Lemon stepped out on a limb and took a job as a local Chicago news anchor.

“They told me when I came there,” Lemon says, “I would do the big stories and specials, and that I’d be the anchor.” Instead, he ended up knocking on people’s doors, asking “How do you feel that your child is dead?”

It was in that low place that he found T.D. Jakes. He downloaded a Jakes sermon called “You Don’t Have to Believe in My Dream.” “That’s when everything changed,” says Lemon, “And I mean everything!”
