Chip and Joanna Gaines Volunteer to Remodel Home After Harvey for 81-Year-Old
Chip and Joanna Gaines, stars of HGTV’s Fixer Upper, recently stopped by an elderly woman’s home to help her remodel it after Hurricane Harvey.
“It was full speed ahead,” said Chip Gaines of the couple’s arrival at 81-year-old Doris Davis’ house in Houston. “We pulled into town and these boys said, ‘Let’s get to work,’ and I said, ‘Great, you’re speaking my language.'” Chip then teased his wife Joanna, “Now Jo, on the other hand, she got her nails done this morning.”
The two remodeling experts are spearheading the work on Doris’ house through Rebuilding Together Houston, reported KHOU.
“I wasn’t expecting this, honey,” grinned Doris. She said she was so frightened during Harvey that she couldn’t leave her home that was flooded with two feet of water. A neighbor rescued Doris and took her to the hospital.
ExxonMobil employees volunteered their time to work on Doris’ remodel. “You have to help everybody get on their feet,” said one volunteer, “because you’re only as good as the weakest link in the community, and that’s what we’re about.”
“Houston’s going to be better than ever,” said Chip. “It’s just going to take a lot of effort and a lot of hard work and I just don’t want people to forget about what’s happened here.”
Doris and her three dogs can move back in the home in about four weeks. It should be quite a “reveal.”
