Small Government Billionaire Charles Koch: ‘It’s Possible’ Clinton Could Be Better Than a Republican, But …

Billionaire Charles Koch, long a target of liberal groups and Democratic politicians, says “it’s possible” that former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton could be a better president than another Republican.

Koch’s comments, made to ABC in an interview set to air this morning, included a tremendous caveat: “We would have to believe her actions would be quite different than her rhetoric. Let me put it that way,” he said.

Koch also praised Clinton’s husband, former president Bill Clinton, for his relative restraint on spending while in office. “In other ways, I mean he wasn’t an exemplar. But as far as the growth of government, the increase in spending,” Koch said. “It was 2.5 times under Bush that it was under Clinton.”

David and Charles Koch head Freedom Partners, an influential GOP donor group that is a boogeyman of the political left. The brothers have not spent any money on the 2016 race because of the Republicans’ rhetoric, said Charles. The brothers are not stereotypical GOP donors. For instance, they have long opposed subsidizing farmers and other business industries, even though ethanol subsidies help portions of their business empire.
