Christian Philosopher J.P. Moreland: Your Questions About Life and Faith Have Answers

By Tom Gilson Published on July 24, 2016

J. P. Moreland is a leader in the field of Christian apologetics, the branch of Christian ministry that studies and communicates reasons for confidence in our faith. He says too many people in the Church feel it isn’t safe to mention doubts. That is, it’s not considered “okay” in the first place, and there’s hardly any confidence that anyone has answers for them.

Too many young people are taught what to believe but not why, and when they face secular professors in college it’s “like shooting fish in a barrel.”

The reality is that following Jesus Christ, the “smartest man who ever lived,” includes developing thoughtfulness. Jesus was always able to respond to challenges with truth and grace. We, too, should be able to speak our views with the the kind of grace that comes with confidence.

Q&A on Tough Questions

So do the hard questions really have answers? Yes! Check out Dr. Moreland’s gracious, confident answers to:

  • Why do you believe in God?
  • How can there be a good God when there is all this evil and suffering?
  • How can Christians say Jesus is the only way to God? Isn’t that arrogant and intolerant?
  • Would God send “good people” to hell?
  • Over decades of studying the toughest arguments from the strongest atheists and skeptics in the business, is your faith in God and Scripture stronger now or weaker? Why?

He is interviewed here by Cody Surratt, teaching pastor at SeaCoast Grace Church.
