The Biology of the Second Reich

Social Darwinism and the origin of World War I

By Jay Richards Published on August 14, 2014

Discovery Institute recently released an important 14-minute documentary that tells the little-known story of the influence of Social Darwinism on German militarism leading up to World War 1, including an exploration of the German military’s genocidal policies in Southwest Africa (modern Namibia). The video features the work of California State University historian Richard Weikart, author of the book From Darwin to Hitler: Evolutionary Ethics, Eugenics, and Racism in Germany.

The film is already garnering impressive film festival awards as a video short. It’s well worth fifteen minutes. There’s more information about the documentary and Weikart’s research at www.darwintohitler.com.
