Millie Chapman, daughter of Christian artists Amy Grant and Gary Chapman, has a big heart — and now only one kidney. Her lifelong best friend Kathryn needed a kidney and by the grace of God, Millie was a perfect match.

Before the surgery, Gary asked fans and friends to prayers for the girls, adding that he trusted that they were in God’s hands.

The transplant surgery took place Tuesday, and according to Chapman, both girls are doing fine. “Millie is out of surgery and everything is looking good,” Chapman posted Wednesday morning. “She’ll be hurting for awhile but healing is underway. Kat is in recovery as well. Thank you all for your prayers and kindness. God is good.”

Jenny Gill, Vince Gill’s daughter and Millie’s stepsister posted a picture of Millie and her mom at the hospital, offering two thumbs up. Jenny’s caption reads “My sister, the superhero! She and her friend are doing very well and are on a lot of drugs.”

Amy Grant also expressed her pride in “Millie’s selfless act of friendship” and her gratitude that the young women are doing well.

Although the surgeries went well, the danger hasn’t passed. As with every transplant surgery, Kathryn’s body must accept the donated kidney, so continued prayers are needed. Join us in prayer for Millie and Kathryn as they continue to heal.
