America, Freedom’s Motherland

By Nancy Flory Published on July 4, 2017

America, freedom’s motherland

Hard won by sons who made a stand

Paid for the right with their own blood

And graced with victory by Sovereign judge

And once in time freedom meant free

To pray and worship as they pleased

But oh how times have changed — so much!

Freedom’s quashed by mortal judge.

Compelled to practice against their faith

A farm, some flowers, a cake to bake

Is this what Francis Bellamy foresaw

When he wrote ‘with liberty and justice for all’?

For if compelled without good reason

The rest are left without true freedom

Since it’s basic to our very existence

As Americans we truly must resist this.

Just as our forefathers were revolutionaries

And for religious freedom visionaries

We must stand firm to protect our faith

Or risk to lose by a black robe’s disgrace.
