Al’s Afternoon Tea: Biden Stumbles Us Toward World War III While ‘Morning Joe’ Duo Drops By Mar-a-Lago
Welcome back in for Al’s Afternoon Tea, our chance to stop and sample the latest news.
First up, an update on Ukraine.
Update: Biden Trying to Create a Deeper Mess in Ukraine for Trump?
This morning we wrote about the signs there could be a movement toward a peace deal in Ukraine. Well … the lame duck American president Joe Biden reportedly has approved Ukraine’s use of long-range missiles against Russia. Specifically, U.S.-made Army Tactical Missile Systems (ATACMS). The reversal of long-standing policy is guaranteed to escalate the war.
Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy seems pleased by the news.
I am deeply grateful to all our partners who support us with air defense systems and missiles. This is a truly global effort. Every time Russia carries out such attacks, it underscores how critical it is that partners don’t leave systems like Patriot and others sitting idle in… pic.twitter.com/4VZu4JpzxG

Moscow is not happy. The Kremlin described the decision as “pouring oil on the fire.” Putin has warned that American long-range missiles being fired from Ukrainian soil would be considered a direct attack on Russia by NATO, and could trigger war with the United States. He’s even threatened to use nukes.
Has Biden sabotaged the move toward peace and drawn us closer to World War III? Or is this move a way to strengthen Ukraine’s bargaining position?
Trump Will Declare National Emergency to Facilitate the Mass Deportation of Illegal Immigrants
Donald Trump confirmed Monday morning on Truth Social that he will declare a national emergency and use military assets to carry out his planned mass deportation of illegal immigrants.
Incoming “border czar” Tom Homan says the first to go will be those who’ve already been ordered out of the country by a federal immigration judge, but who have ignored it. “They became a fugitive” when they made that decision, he says.
Joe and Mika Visit Mar-a-Lago?
For the past seven years, Morning Joe hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski’s entire act has been to whine and moan about Donald Trump, accusing him of all manner of evil.
So naturally, on Friday, they paid a visit to Mar-a-Lago. The duo told their audience this morning they had expressed a desire to speak to the president-elect. Next thing you know, they’re getting an invitation to his house.
It’s the first time they’ve seen Trump face-to-face in seven years. (They used to be regulars at Mar-a-Lago.) The hosts insisted they grilled the president-elect. “We didn’t see eye-to-eye on a lot of issues, and we told him so,” bellowed Scarborough. However, Brzezinski added, they agreed with Trump about the need to “restart communications.”

Joe and Mika are getting chummy again with Trump. Can world peace be far behind?
Correction: Harris Did Not Pay Oprah $1 Million. Payments to Her Company Totaled $2.5 Million
We must issue a correction. The Kamala Harris campaign did not pay Oprah’s production company $1 million to stage a town hall meeting with the presidential candidate; they paid Oprah nearly $2.5 million.
Oprah insists she didn’t take a dime, though.
“For the livestreamed event that aired in September, my production company, Harpo, was asked to bring in set design, lights, cameras, crew, producers, and every other item necessary (including the benches and the chairs we sat on) to put on a live production. I did not take any personal fee,” Winfrey insisted. “However, the people who worked on that production needed to be paid. And were. End of story.”
Yeah. But we still maintain that since you’re a billionaire who kept insisting that democracy was at stake, you should have footed the bill yourself. And would have, if you really believed your own rhetoric.
New FCC Head Is Victory for Free Speech
Donald Trump has named Brendan Carr to head the Federal Communications Commission. Carr is currently the only Republican on the FCC, and he has been vocal in fighting to maintain free speech. On Friday, he specifically called out Google, Facebook, Microsoft, and Apple for playing a central role in the “censorship cartel.”
Carr also raised a red flag a few weeks before the election over the FCC violating agency tradition and policy by bull rushing approval for George Soros to take control of more than 200 American radio stations.
On Sunday, Carr noted that the FCC currently lists DEI as its second highest strategic goal — and said that’s going to stop as soon as Trump takes office. “Starting next year, the FCC will end its promotion of DEI.”
Mallory Was the Smart One All Along
On the ’80s hit sitcom Family Ties, Justine Bateman played Mallory, the younger sister of Alex, played by Michael J. Fox. Alex was the overachieving, brilliant (conservative) oldest child, while Mallory was the shallow, ditzy middle child. Or was she?
In the series finale, which aired in 1989, Alex is preparing to deliver his college valedictorian address, driving himself mad in trying to find the meaning of life so he can share it with his fellow graduates. Not helping matters is the fact that he’s losing both his estranged girlfriend and the younger student he is falling for on the same day.
Totally vexed and depressed, Alex stumbles into the clothing store where Mallory works. Alex moans and groans to his sister, finally blurting something like, “And to top it off, I can’t find the meaning of life!” Not missing a beat, Mallory says. “Oh, that’s easy. Be happy, try not to hurt other people, and hope you fall in love.” She turns and gets back to work as if all she’d done is tell her brother the weather forecast.
Last week, Justine Bateman demonstrated again she is the smart one in comparison to so many of her Hollywood compatriots.
The actress said a cloud has been lifted over America with the reelection of Trump.
“I feel like there was this kind of suffocating cloud that was kind of over us,” she told Fox News Digital. “Regular people who had questions about decisions that were being made were threatened subtly or obviously into silence. And I feel like that’s been broken, that sort of suppression has been kind of broken.”
After the election, Bateman went viral for describing the past four years as “a very un-American period,” with its quashing of free expression and “common sense discarded.”
So, what was un-American about the last four years or longer is that one could not even ask a question about something. One could not even engage in a debate about things like trans women playing in sports, about trans women … being in women’s locker rooms or bathrooms or prisons. And to not allow the public to freely engage about the benefits and dangers of these types of decisions, I think that is un-American. The idea that, “No, you subscribe to what we’ve said and shut your mouth or we will destroy your career. Or we will destroy you socially.”
The liberated Bateman, who says she has no party affiliation, kept up her newfound public voice this weekend, with an encouraging word to Tulsi Gabbard. Trump’s nominee for director of the Department of National Intelligence is getting slurred and slammed at every turn.
.@TulsiGabbard, I have been giving interviews for 40 years. I applaud your on-camera composure in the face of blatant rudeness, and your huevos in reciting to them the lies they've told about you. I pray that your emotions and resolve continue to be bulletproof against verbal… https://t.co/dZKFDCB48B
