A witness who heard gunshots this morning at Navy Medical Center San Diego (NMCSD) appears to be mistaken, the Navy now says. However, authorities were continuing to search the building in an abundance of caution.

Shortly after 8:00 a.m. Pacific time, the witness reported hearing three gunshots in the basement of Center’s building 26. NMCSD posted a warning on their Facebook page ordering all occupants to “run, hide or fight.”

Military and local police swarmed the area. Nearby schools were also briefly on lockdown. Fortunately, a preliminary search indicated no one was injured, and Navy Capt. Curt Jones said there was no immediate evidence to suggest a gun had been fired.
