A Thanksgiving Brew: America Has an Enormous Amount to Be Thankful for This Year. I’m Serious. No Joke.

By Al Perrotta Published on November 28, 2024

Giving humble thanks to God has been a part of the American identity since our founding. A reliance on God is so much a part of our fabric that we stamp it on all our money. We’ve even made an annual holiday out of it, which we celebrate today.

So the nation expressing gratitude to God on Thanksgiving is nothing new. Yet this year, we especially have to give an even louder shout of praise to Him for having His hand on our nation. With our bloodthirst for abortion, our grooming and mutilation of children, our re-embrace of the occult, and much of our American church itself rejecting His Word and His presence, who would have blamed Him for turning away away?

And yet the Lord made it clear He is not done with us yet. He listened to the fervent prayers of millions who not only held to 2 Chronicles7:14’s promise of “if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and … turn from their wicked ways .. .I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”

The Butler Miracle

We need only go back to July 13, in Butler, Pennsylvania. By no earthly reckoning should Donald Trump still be alive. The fractions of an inch by which he missed death, the fractions of a second we are talking about, with an uncharacteristic turn of the head to display a graph that wasn’t even supposed to be part of his speech that day — and even if it had been, would have been on the other side of the stage and presented later — cannot be dismissed as chance. Trump — and the country — did not just catch a lucky break. They experienced a miracle.

Given the furious divisions in the country, the hell that would have been unleashed on our nation had Trump been struck down is unimaginable. Or maybe not. The assassination of Abraham Lincoln brought a retribution upon the South that was felt for a hundred years. The assassination of Archduke Ferdinand ignited the First World War.

God spared us those horrors. And Trump’s iconic reaction, thanks to his God-given fearlessness and fighting spirit, helped reignite a light in the American darkness.

The Election Miracle

Lincoln had it right: We can’t be wondering if God is on our side. We must concern ourselves with whether we are on His.

However, I am convinced that in this election, the Lord did not put His finger on the scale, but made sure no one else did either.

I was very agitated on Election Day, convinced that despite the fact that all signs pointed toward a big Trump win, nefarious players would again steal the election from the American people. Yet while my brain twisted itself in fear, the small still voice within urged me to hush. My mind was then filled with images of efforts to thwart the election starting to fill up like balloons, only to be deflated as if the air was forced out by unseen hands. One would start to rise, and then down it would go. Another would start to fill, but down it would go. I knew prophetically at that moment that the presidential election was going to be relatively clean.

The Lord had cleared the way; the American people would speak and be heard.

Can We Thank the Lord for the Result?

You bet. We can talk until the turkey’s done about the policy debacles, both foreign and domestic, that would have come our way with a Kamala Harris victory. All we need to know is that Harris made it clear she didn’t want Christ in the room.

And the Bible is crystal clear on what happens to nations whose leaders turn away from God.

So thank you, Lord, for the W on Election Night. In Your name.

But also, thank You, Lord, for the clear margin of victory. A sweep of the swing states, a victory in the popular vote, virtually every inch of the country turning toward the red, a staggering swing of support in one direction from all races and creeds and colors and economic status levels. This is the most unified the people of this country have been since 9/11.

A narrow margin and drawn-out legal battle would have wrecked us, perhaps to the point of no return, regardless of who was declared the victor. But the whipping was too big and wide to be denied. The rioters couldn’t even take to the streets. About the worst we’ve seen is liberal women shaving their heads and voting to withhold sex from Trump voters — not quite the same as setting buildings aflame. We have celebrities quitting X for the moment, and only Ellen DeGeneres fleeing the country. We don’t even have Madonna sitting outside the White House, dreaming of bombing the place.

And for that, we have to be incredibly thankful.

A Thanksgiving Prayer

So as we settle into this Thanksgiving Day, prepare our feasts, enjoy the floats in the Macy’s Parade, and flip on the football games, let’s keep on our lips words of thanks to our Sovereign Lord for giving us the opportunity for a Second Rebirth of Freedom.

The hard work begins in the morning.
