White House chief of staff questions whether anything is sacred anymore.

White House chief of staff John Kelly delivered an emotional speech supporting the President’s condolence call earlier this week to the widow of a serviceman killed in Niger. In his address, General Kelly said he was “stunned” that a member of Congress listened in on the call and disparaged the President’s effort to comfort. Kelly questioned whether anything was sacred anymore.

Kelly made his remarks after Democratic Congresswoman Frederica Wilson said President Trump disparaged Sgt. La David T. Johnson during a call to his widow, Myeshia this week, reported Gateway Pundit. Wilson told NBC that, “Sarcastically, [Trump] said: ‘But, you know, he must’ve known what he signed up for’ … how could you say that to a grieving widow? … I couldn’t believe, and he said it more than once.”

Kelly :

I was stunned when I came to work yesterday morning, and broken-hearted what I saw a member of congress doing. A member of congress who listened in on a phone call from the President of the United States to a young wife. And in his way, tried to express that opinion. ‘He’s a brave man. A fallen hero. He knew what he was getting himself into because he enlisted. There’s no reason to enlist. He enlisted. And he was where he wanted to be, exactly where he wanted to be exactly the people he wanted to be with when his life was taken.’ That was the message. That was the message that was transmitted.

He added: “It stuns me that a member of congress would have listened in on that conversation. Absolutely stuns me. And I thought at least that was sacred.” Kelly was so upset that he spent an hour and a half walking among the gravestones of fallen soldiers in Arlington National Cemetery. Kelly became emotional: “I walked among the stones, some of whom I put there, because they were doing what I told them to do when they were killed.”

Kelly appealed to the press and the American people to at least hold the memory of fallen soldiers sacred. “Let’s not let this be the last thing that’s held sacred in our society — a young man, young woman, going out and giving his or her life for our country — let’s try to somehow keep that sacred.” He added, “But it eroded a great deal yesterday by the selfish behavior of a member of congress.”
