Trump: Newly Sainted Mother Teresa ‘Represented the Best in Each of Us’

GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump has released a video praising the newly-canonized Mother Teresa for how she “gave food to the hungry, shelter to the homeless and education to the needy.”

According to Trump, “She represented the best in each of us. I’m truly happy to see Catholics across the world join together to celebrate Mother Teresa’s uniquely humble, generous and pious life. There was nobody like her.”

Trump has struggled this election to gain traction with Catholics, who went for President Barack Obama in 2012 and who appear to be favoring Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton in 2016. Clinton moved to broaden her appeal among Catholics by choosing as her running mate liberal Catholic Senator Tim Kaine (R-VA), who supports abortion, female clergy and a redefinition of marriage.

Trump’s ad did not make mention of Mother Teresa’s ardent pro-life views. The diminutive nun, who’s now officially titled “Saint Teresa of Calcutta,” called abortion the “greatest destroyer of peace” in her 1979 Nobel Peace Prize speech. She again emphatically defended life at the 1994 National Prayer Breakfast— with Hillary Clinton and her husband President Bill Clinton looking on.
