Trump on SNL Saturday, But He’s Hardly the First Politician on the Show

Since 1975, politicians have often shown up for special guest appearances and sometimes served as host of the show.

President Gerald Ford taped an appearance for the show when his press secretary, Ron Nessen, hosted in 1976, the show’s first season. Ford delivered the signature “Live from New York, it’s ‘Saturday Night’!” opening line.
