Three Sentenced to Prison in Racially Motivated Slaying of Black Man

“We were thinking that that part of our history was over so to have something like this happen in 2011 it’s shocking,” says Thompson in response to a crime like this happening in the 21st century.

Before stepping down from the stand, Young left Anderson’s attackers with these words, “May God have mercy on your sin sick souls.”

Tuesday’s sentencing hearing was filled with references of Mississippi’s tainted past of racism. Anderson’s brother cheered that “justice has been done” while leaving the court. Seven more people are set to be sentenced in connection to those hate crimes.
