Tapper on Farrakhan: ‘Why is it So Hard For Some People to Condemn a Rabid Anti-Semite?’

By Published on March 6, 2018

CNN anchor Jake Tapper on Monday called out Democrats for refusing to denounce Nation of Islam leader and rabid anti-Semite Louis Farrakhan.

Tapper played a clip of Farrakhan’s recent speech raging against “the Jews,” and noted The Daily Caller News Foundation’s exclusive report on Democratic Illinois Rep. Danny Davis’s consistent praise for Farrakhan. Tapper also noted Women’s March leader Tamika Mallory’s support for Farrakhan, despite his anti-Semitism.

“Why is it so tough for some people to condemn a rabid anti-semite who is also a misogynist and anti-LGBT?” Tapper asked his panel. “It should not be,” agreed CNN commentator Jen Psaki, a former Clinton campaign official.

Tapper also noted a recent meeting that Minnesota Rep. Keith Ellison, the deputy chair of the Democratic National Committee, had attended with Farrakhan, as well as a newly emerged photo of then-Illinois Sen. Barack Obama smiling with Farrakhan at a Congressional Black Caucus meeting. The photo was suppressed for 13 years in order to protect Obama’s political career.

“So people want the association [with Farrakhan] but they don’t want to get dinged for it publicly,” Tapper observed.
