German police captured a Syrian man suspected of plotting a bomb attack, following a two-day manhunt across the nation.

Jaber al-Bakr, 22, was apprehended and tied up by another Syrian man Monday morning in the city of Leipzig. Al-Bakr had been on the run since Friday night, when explosive materials were discovered during a raid of his apartment in the town of Chemnitz. He had sought help from the other Syrian man, who instead detained him and called the police.

Police kept large parts of Chemnitz on lockdown after discovering al-Bakr’s “virtual bomb-making lab.”

Unconfirmed reports claim the substance in the apartment was TATP, which has been used during jihadist attacks in Europe over the past year. The material is considered “far more dangerous than TNT,” according to a police spokesman.

Police believe al-Bakr planned to target an airport in Berlin within the near future. Other reports suggest al-Bakr was sent to Europe by the Islamic State to set up a bomb factory.

Al-Bakr came to Germany in February 2015 and was granted asylum at the end of last year.

“Tired but overjoyed: we captured the terror suspect,” police said after the arrest.
