Southwest Flight Attendant Says She was Fired for Being Pro-Life

Southwest said she violated its social media policy by sharing her “highly offensive” pro-life beliefs.

A Southwest Airlines ex-flight attendant sued the airline and its union because it wouldn’t let her express her pro-life views according to a Tuesday press release.

Charlene Carter sued her ex-employer and union officials on Sept. 14, alleging that she was fired from her job for vocalizing her views on abortion and expressing opposition to union leadership.

The airline retaliated against Carter for exercising her First and Fifth Amendment rights, according to the Tuesday press release from the National Right to Work Legal Defense Foundation (NRWL) Communications Manager. The suit also objects to the airline union’s compelling Carter to continue paying fees despite her exit from the union in 2013.

After finding out that the union’s president and other officials had allocated union dues to attend the Women’s March in Washington, D.C., Carter posted on Facebook and sent an email to President Stone explaining that she was upset her money was going towards a cause she objects to. Six days after sending Stone her email, Southwest managers requested Carter attend a mandatory meeting and she was fired a week later. Southwest said Carter violated its social media policy by sharing her “highly offensive” pro-life beliefs.

“This case shows the extent to which union officials will wield their power over employers to violate the rights’ of the workers they claim to represent,” said Mark Mix, president of the National Right to Work Foundation.

“Charlene Carter did nothing wrong. She merely voiced her opinion and opposition to her money being used for causes she opposes, expressing her protected religious beliefs,” Mix said. “Southwest and TWUA union officials need to be held accountable for violating Charlene’s rights and the National Right to Work Foundation is pleased to help her stand up to this campaign of harassment,” he added.

Carter had never been disciplined previously in her 20 year career with Southwest.

Sadly it is becomingly increasingly common for corporations to militantly oppose Christian values as offensive yet defend and support various perversions – infanticide aka abortion, SSM & homosexuality, the trans agenda etc. And traditional rights such as freedom of speech or freedom of religion are increasingly seen as contrary to the interests of the nation.

Tens of thousands of Democrats oppose abortion and many of those are not religious in any way. Opposing abortion is not just a christian value, the beauty of child birth outweighs politics, I have no idea what abortion views have to do with this job other than a personal vendetta against opposing political beliefs by management. Such a shame that all this hate from the Democrat party has risen to this level.

      • Dean Bruckner

I surely hope you are right that “tens of thousands of Democrats oppose abortion.” In my experience, those types of Democrats are like Bigfoot or the Loch Ness Monster: lots of people say they exist, but very few actually claim to have seen them. Even more to the point, no one seems to be able to produce such a creature on demand. When push comes to shove, they are nowhere to be found.

abortion is THE singular issue binding that group together. Ask Any leader of the Democrat party, and they will tell you, in no uncertain terms, that pro life people are not welcome. I call BS.

Man, Southwest was my “go to” air carrier, too. I’m going to regret having to take my business as a traveling consultant to other airlines, most of which likely have the same policies. However, I’m not going to reward Southwest for this act with new business, and I’m not going to travel via covered wagon and mule team.

The progressives take over management of the largest and richest organizations, and then proceed to use them as their ideological “change” vehicle. Who knew that Southwest Airlines main corporate goal with to advance progressive values by actively suppressing conservative ones? I thought that they were a public, for profit air transport company. This wouldn’t have happened at Southwest 20 years ago.

    This really ticks me off.

SouthWest is a big financial supporter of Planned Butcherhood, they do not deny it.

    • Irene Neuner

I don’t want to fly SouthWst anymore.

      • quiethinker

Yuk! I always fly Southwest….they owe me money. Now what!

    • john appleseed

      Oh, you mean Planned Barrenhood?
      AKA Premeditated Murder?

  • RH

Maybe she should have told them she was moslem…they would have bent over backwards to keep her. 🙁
Sadly, if you have Christian, have a pro-family, pro-life, anti-homosexuality belief, the “USA” has been so tarnished
by socialist, liberal policies that even corporations are more afraid of the “do your own thing” crowd, than they are
the conservative, pro-American family values groups. Well, the pendulum will swing back, God willing and I have a
    LONG memory.

If Southwest opts to penalize the flight attendant for her pro-life views it is only just and right that millions of former SWA patrons penalize the airline for their “anti-life” views by refraining from using the airline.

Alaska Airlines is looking better all the time.

  • quiethinker

And what about them spouting their highly offensive beliefs!!!

  • bugbert

I’m surprised that they didn’t use the normal liberal phrase of ‘deeply troubled’ instead of ‘highly offensive’. This lady should walk away with millions.

  • Lord Cornbread

Shredding the unborn in a vitamix is just fine but respecting the sanctity of life is offensive.

    Great corporate values Southwest. Disgusting.

  • TroyGale

It’s amazing isn’t it? Unions ought not exist, they are Socialist tools to gain political and economic power, they are leftists.
Also to be considered, why is it that the Left are always the ones embroiled in things like this? Denying a citizen their rights, it is always the left. Antifa, and this Union, the same animal, the same goals.
Make all unions illegal, period. That is the only solution.

It is a little scary that the thought police have so much power over the individual. Their tactics are OK if the thought goes their way.

  • Dem-Smasher

Hope she wins mega bucks from the airline.

  • Martin K

Well, I guess I’ll never fly Southwest again. Really shocked by this.
