Sanders Brushes Off Presidential Election Recount

By Published on November 27, 2016

Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders brushed off former Green Party candidate Jill Stein’s call for an presidential election recount, saying it’s “not a big deal” during an appearance on ABC’s This Week Sunday.

Stein raised enough money to file for a recount in Wisconsin, and is working to do the same in Michigan and Pennsylvania. Sanders said he doesn’t expect much to come of her efforts.

“We will see what happens. It’s a legal right. It’s not a big deal. I don’t think anybody, Secretary Clinton or anybody else, thinks that there’s going to be profound changes,” he told host Martha Raddatz. “And we will see what happens.”

President-elect Donald Trump won the Badger State 47.9 percent to Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton’s 46.9 percent.

Sanders noted he wasn’t surprised the Clinton camp got on board with Stein’s efforts, but noted it was not the Democrats leading the way.

“The Democrats, Martha, are not doing the recount,” he said. “I trust that you know that was initiated by the Green Party, who has every right in the world to do it.”
