Report Suggests UK Should Give Parliament Seats to Imams to Reflect De-Christianized Society

A panel on religion in the United Kingdom calls for public life to be systematically de-Christianized to make way for other beliefs, including slotted seats for imams and rabbis in the upper house of the parliament.

The Commission on Religion And Belief in Public Life — an expert panel of religious leaders, politicians and professors formed two years ago  — says Britain needs to reflect a new reality of decline of church-going and the rise of Islam in a new report presented to the parliament. It states the “new settlement” in the country needs to be highlighted with more official influence to non-religious voices and those of non-Christian faith.

“The increase in those with non-religious beliefs, the reduction in the number of Christians and an increase in their diversity, and the increase in the number of people identifying with non-Christian religions: these are the settled social context of Britain today and for the foreseeable future,” the reports says.

It further says some of the slotted seats for The Church of England in the upper chamber of the parliament, The House of Lords, should be given to rabbis and imams to reflect diversity.

The report lists a number of areas of Christianity in society that needs to be neutralized.

  1. Faith schools should no longer make selections of students based on religious beliefs
  2. Acts of worship in school assemblies need to be be abolished and replaced with a “time for reflection”
  3. The coronation service (the crowning ceremony) for the next monarch ought to be overhauled to include other faiths

The most discussed item in the report regards the anti-terror policy. The commission asks for it to be revised to allow students to voice radical views on campus without fear of getting reported or prosecuted.

Ministers of the Cabinet and the Church of England had strong reactions to the report, calling it “seriously misguided” and “hijacked” by humanists.
