Racism is Alive, But Not Well

As I write this we are less than 24 hours out from the horrific shootings at AME church in Charleston, South Carolina by white supremacist Dylann Storm Roof. Like most major news stories these days, I discovered the initial reports on Twitter.

Immediately accusations and cruel absurdities began flying around – it’s the NRA’s fault, FOX News, the Confederate Flag. Some people tried to minimize the issue of race making typical (and often tiresome) comparisons to black-on-black crime and insisting racism wasn’t/isn’t the real problem but “evil” is the problem. Sidebar: Racism is evil.

It was a damn mess right from the start with people ripping at each other’s throats like rabid dogs. It was shameful, no matter what side of the political fence you sit on.
