An Australian feminist professor argues abortions can and should be regarded as no big deal and even a happy experience in her newly published book that examines the emotions of abortion.

University of Adelaide professor, Erica Millar, posits that abortions should be regarded as positive experiences in her book, Happy Abortions: Our Bodies In The Era Of Choice, arguing for a “radical reinterpretation of women’s freedom,” per the work’s description.

“The description of abortion as inherently grievable and traumatic generates a circular logic,” Millar writes in her work, according to PJ Media. But abortion is “an everyday rather than extraordinary event, experienced by approximately one in three women,” Millar continues.

She even argues that abortion carries no acute or prolonged emotional or mental health consequences for women — despite a recent study showing otherwise. A majority of American women who aborted their unborn babies say their lives didn’t improve at all or refused to answer a question about any positive effects of aborting, the study reports.

Despite her contentious claims, many pro-abortion activists are celebrating the book and regard it as an advancement in the battle for all-encompassing women’s reproductive rights. “Millar’s book celebrates that abortion, like childbirth, can be a joyful experience when achieving reproductive justice through human rights,” Loretta Ross, co-founder of “SisterSong Women of Color Reproductive Justice Collective” writes in her review.

“Millar reminds us that abortion is a normal fact of life and a social good. This shouldn’t be a radical claim,” the secretary of Ireland’s Coalition to Repeal the Eighth Amendment, Sinead Kennedy, also writes.

Millar did not respond to TheDCNF’s request for comment in time for publication.
